What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Artificial Intelligence, the forecasting methodology at the heart of
all Carnus Systems products, is an electronic simulation of the neural
processes that form human thought.
The core elements of the Carnus Forecaster are:

A smart forecasting module that learns

An automated forecasting interface

A design specifically
suited for
the hospitality industry
Our forecasting methodology is designed specifically for
hotels, restaurants, & casinos. By using the most powerful
artificial intelligence
forecasting engines available, Carnus software takes the following
complexities into account:

Non-linear trends

Complex temporal patterns

Diverse variable interactions
By implementing artificial intelligence technologies, Carnus Systems'
software has been shown to outperform:

Capture ratios

MS Excel manipulation

Regression and/or linear modelling

Intuition and guesswork based on experience
The artificial intelligence engine that forms the foundation of Carnus
Systems' software is designed to query the highly complex non-linear
interactions and trends within your establishment. By learning
the dynamic nature of its surrounding operating environment, the Carnus
Forecaster produces results that will exceed that of human intuition
and classic forecasting techniques.
Why does Artificial Intelligence work better than capture ratios,
human guesswork, regression, moving averages, and other techniques?
Artificial Intelligence has been shown to yield the greatest
hospitality forecasting accuracy compared to alternative techniques in
current industry-wide use. Hotels are complex environments that
are subject to the interactions of large sums of variables that often
demonstrate non-linear patterns.
Neither capture ratios, human guesswork, nor multiple linear regression
can detect the complex non-linear patterns within hotels, thus leading
to poor accuracy. Similarly, moving averages, a time series
method, yields poor short-term forecasts since the technique smoothes
peaks, thereby leading to over- or underestimates.
Time series methods, which are starting to be implemented at some
hotels, demonstrate the poorest accuracy due to their univariate
nature. Univariate techniques only use previous values of the
variable a hotelier wishes to forecast to make a prediction, thereby
ignoring all other information like OTB, convention information,
weather, room availability, etc. Box-Jenkins, Exponential
Smoothing, and Winter's Methods are some common time series techniques.
The non-parametric, non-linear nature of artificial intelligence makes
it an ideal choice that yields the highest accuracy in the hotel
industry.
What other areas have utilized AI technology?
Artificial intelligence is used in prostate cancer diagnosis,
skyscraper elevator systems, NASA gallaxy detection tools, stock market
prediction, and a large variety of other sectors.
